Thousands of women throughout the world are leading technological innovation. They, and the companies who support them, often go unnoticed and unrewarded. The Anita Borg Institute has created a set of awards to honor these distinguished women and those organizations who view technology innovation as a strategic imperative.
Each spring, the Anita Borg Institute hosts an awards banquet to celebrate the accomplishments of three prominent women technologists whose lifetime achievements have significantly advanced the field of technology. Three awards, representing the categories of leadership, innovation, and social impact, are presented to the night’s honorees. In addition, one company is honored as this year’s top company for women in computing. The event is attended by industry professionals, academics, and students. The 2014 winners were honored at the Women of Vision Awards Banquet in Santa Clara, CA on May 8, 2014.
Women of Vision—The Power of Role Models
At the Anita Borg Institute, we celebrate and highlight the success of women. Through their achievements and life stories, Women of Vision and Top Company award winners demonstrate that each of us has the power to improve our world, individually and collectively. We are inspired by the award winners’ examples, moved by their sacrifices, and stirred by their extraordinary commitment to excellence, progress, and creative problem-solving.
“At the Anita Borg Institute, changing the culture of technology is an important part of our mission. One of the ways we see an impact on the culture of technology is through role models— incredible women such as our Women of Vision winners.”
— TELLE WHITNEY, ANITA BORG INSTITUTE PRESIDENT & CEO
The Anita Borg Institute recognizes the value of role models. From students to senior-level executives, women in technology look to one another for advice, support, and direction. Role models have a profound influence on our present and our future. Organizations building inclusive and innovative cultures also act as industry role models. Our Women of Vision program emphasizes the need for women and men to see role models as an example of what’s possible and as an inspiration to excel in their own careers.
